Dear Summerwood Residents,

We’re writing to share an update on key projects underway in our community, including concerns related to our bridges, walking paths, waterways, and beaver activity.

🦫 Waterway and Beaver Activity
The partial bridge between Madrillon and Caskadilla is being affected by two beaver dams that are obstructing natural water flow between the Summerwood Lane stormwater management pond. (SWMP) See the picture referencing the dams below this section.

The vendor has recommended:

• Lethal trapping (there isn’t a viable relocation option due to facility spaces)

• Dismantling of the dams

• Area monitoring for returning activity

• Preventative steps to reduce future damming

🚶 Walking Path Improvements

We have also begun reviewing the condition of our walking paths. Vendors have been contacted to provide estimates for gravel refresh and to propose a recurring maintenance plan that will ensure our paths remain in good condition year-round.

🔧 Project Planning in Progress
Both bridge and beaver issues are being addressed in parallel. The waterway flow restoration project is more complex, as the area is listed in the Maryland Wetlands Database, which requires:

• Discussions with county environmental offices

• Exploration of additional funding options. (Grants are being researched)
